Audiotools is the complete audio recording
solution. An easy to learn and attractive interface
allows access to basic direct-to-disk recording
features, with advanced features available through
a system of profiles. Don't be fooled by
programs which claim to limit functionality for
the sake of simplicity or which hold back on features
in order to sell you a whole suite of software.
Audiotools provides it all in one handy, extensible
program. The combination of a one week trial period
followed by a ten minute recording limit after
the week has expired provides a comfortable balance
between programs that simply stop working after
a couple of weeks or those which cripple recording
abilities with limits measured in seconds.

You can record anything that you can feed into
your soundcard: this means that you can record LP's, cassettes,
CD's and minidiscs or direct speech from a microphone source.
With modern, duplex soundcards, you can also record anything
that you can play, including MIDI files or streamed audio
from the Internet. Existing files can be processed and converted.
CD's can be digitally ripped, ensuring no loss of quality.
You can record your material to a single file
limited only by the format you choose (200 minutes for a CD
quality WAV, essentially unlimited for MP3, WMA etc) and the
space on your hard disc. Recordings can also be split into
separate songs automatically using auto-track or manually
using the track button. Existing files can be split automatically
or manually using either visual or audible methods.
Audio can be recorded to most popular formats
including WAV, WMA, MP3 or Real Media. CD's can be burnt from
directly within the application.
Plugins provide support for audio processing such
as noise reduction, level control and equalisation. Plugins
can be chained together in profiles, allowing multiple
effects to be applied simultaneously.
Wizards step you through the basics of recording
and the help provides detailed tutorials on many common operations.

- Record large audio files direct to disk, limited
only by the operating system (WAV files have a 2Gb
file size limit - approx 200 minutes at CD quality
per file - number of files limited only by your hard
disk size). All soundcards are supported from 8-bit
to 24-bit, recording at 6KHz to 96KHz.in mono or stereo.
- Auto-ear simplifies the setting up of soundcards
for beginners. A visual, manual mixer and direct access
to the Windows mixer are also available.
- Process already recorded files in .WAV (PCM and
ACM), .WMA, .WMV, .MP2, .MP3, .AU or .AIFF formats
(more to come). Handle individual files, merge files
or process lists of files as a batch. Automatically
converts all files to a consistent format when merging
them.
- Record to .WAV (PCM and ACM), .WMA, .WMV, .RM, .VQF,
.AU, .AIFF and .MP3 formats (.MP3 requires either
the LAME, Gogo or Fraunhoffer plugin). Automatically
converts audio to an appropriate format where file
formats support limited bit-rates. Allows direct recording
from any soundcard into any format (even from 96KHz/24-bit
to MP3).
- Create CD's with support for normal or disc-at-once
recording on most ASPI compatible CD writers. Create
CD's from MP3's. Note that Adaptec are now allowing
users without their products to download the ASPI
layer from http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?cat=/Product/ASPI-4.70&filekey=aspi_v470.exe=/Product/ASPI-4.70&filekey=aspi_v470.exe.
- Use other command-line encoders such as Blade or
TwinVQ directly from the application.
- Automatically split recordings into separate tracks
whilst recording using "Auto-track" silence
detection mechanism, user-defined chunk sizes or under
user control with the track button.
- Precision manual splitting of pre-recorded material
using "Audition" mode with "SoftCue".
Process recordings at up to 4 times their recorded
speed for convenience or even faster using the slider
control on the Large or 16-colour skins.
- Manually split recordings, or adjust automatically
split recordings using the "Waveform" mode.
Extremely powerful visual editing allows you to selectively
keep, discard or compress sections of a recording.
- Paint out clicks and pops manually using the Soft-paint
feature in either Softcue or Waveform modes.
- Interface supports flexible skins for customisation.
- Plugin architecture for file types, audio processing,
skin controls, wizards and application extensions.
Plugins supplied include:
- Basic recording, scheduling (for time recording
from radio or internet) and sanity check wizards.
- Download agent and file report application extensions.
- Gain, Metering, Parametric Equalisation, Noise Reduction
(LMS and De-noise), Gain levelling (Leveller and Normalizer),
Conversion between Mono and Stereo, Noise Gating,
Stop recording on a defined period of silence, Fade-in's
and Fade-out's, Sample Rate conversion, speeding up
and slowing down, Padding with silence, Clip detection,
DC Bias adjustment, Peak Limiting, Phono - pre-amp
eq and Reverb audio plugins.
- Audiotools can be scripted with VBScript or Javascript
or automated externally with Visual Basic, Delphi
or other COM compliant languages.
- Plugins can be organised into convenient profiles
to keep useful settings for various tasks.
- Skins can be created to customise the look of the
program - a graphical skin designer is available from
the Files page.
